William Morris Organ Screen

This Organ Screen was designed and made at the workshops of William Morris around 1869. There is suggestion that Morris personally painted part of this scheme – most likely the customary stylised fruit and foliage in the lower panels. The figures were possibly painted by Edward Burne-Jones who did most of the figurative designs at the time.
William Morris (24 March 1834 – 3 October 1896) was a prominent artist, designer, craftsman, socialist and writer. He founded his furnishings and decorative arts firm: Morris, Marshall, Faulkner & Co. with Edward Burne-Jones, Dante Gabriel Rossetti, Philip Webb, and others in 1861. They created interiors designs for a number of Britain’s churches and cathedrals.
The Organ was originally built in 1869 by T. C. Lewis and completely restored in 1992 by Henry Willis and Sons.
